Marten Bequest Travelling Scholarships

Assisting young, talented Australians in the arts

The Marten Bequest Travelling Scholarships provide support for young Australians in a variety of categories to help them further their cultural education and achieve their dreams. They are awarded each year for study, maintenance and travel either in Australia or overseas.

John Chisholm Marten (1908 – 1966), who established these scholarships through his estate, had a life long interest in the arts and literature. The scholarships commenced in 1967.

Scholarships are offered in nine categories that alternate:

  • Acting 
  • Architecture  
  • Ballet
  • Instrumental Music
  • Painting
  • Poetry
  • Prose
  • Sculpture
  • Singing

2012 Scholarships

2012 winners were announced at the Museum of Contemporary Art on 22 March 2012. Please visit the Marten Bequest official website for details and regular updates are on facebook.

2013 Scholarships


Details for the 2013 scholarships will be available late 2012 and the categories next available are: Acting, Painting, Sculpture and Singing.
